![]() The only theory I can dream up to explain all of the above is that a person with access to the NZ beta-max version (or one person with the ability to edit a rental) in a fit of romantic, dishonest creativity, spliced in a PORTION of the ending of "14 Going on 30" (aired 3/6/88) after the credits of "Big" (opened in theaters Australia in 11/18/88). I wouldn't suddenly swear I saw it nor would I argue with others, defending my fake memory. If you told me a rumor that "The Breakfast Club" had an alternate ending which had the gang take off on a hot air balloon, or that "Overboard" ended with the two boats crashing and everyone drowning. (The American made-for-TV movie may not have even aired in Indonesia). I have never seen that movie so I'm definitely not "confusing" them. (I knew Alan Thicke and would have made that connection and remembered it). I watched other scenes to spark my memory. I admit this ending does come really close to what I recall and made me question my own memory. ![]() 2) I watched the final scene to "14 Going on 30", as people suggested. No YouTube vids, no copy of the original, no evidence. I will admit two things: 1) it is bizarre there is no record of it anywhere. ![]() The discussions start with my innocent question and end up with fervent google searches and arguments about everything from where Susan would live to vehicles of mass-delusion and the human memory system. That day and countless days since, I have gotten in surprisingly heated debates with others about this. "Wait! I love the ending!" "That WAS the end." Needless to say I made her put it back and fast-forward through the credits and was left baffled, eating crow. When I moved to the States, I watched a US copy at a friend's house and yelled out when she went to pop out the tape as Josh and Billy walked down the street. I watched it over and over I know I saw this scene after the credits every time. I grew up in Indonesia, so we got the New Zealand version over there, on Beta-Max. The problem is that the majority of those were recorded over as the distribution companies reused the tapes. Over the years I’ve been accused of confusing Big with another TV movie with a similar theme (the name of which I forget) but luckily I have 11 corroborating witnesses who all saw the same thing.Įssentially we need to find an ex rental copy of Big from the UK and it has to be the original release. Imagine me even mentioning this to lecturers and being shouted down. I have over the years bought 6 different copies of the film, including 2 ex rentals and there’s no sight of it. I studied film at University and have mentioned this to everyone I know. Everyone in the room (my Mum, Dad, brother, 2 Aunties, 2 uncles and 4 cousins) we’re chatting when the film came back on, I flicked the sound back on and all 12 of us watched the ending in amazement exactly as you describe. My Dad made me mute the TV but I left the the credits running. Just as the film finished a couple of Aunties an Uncles arrived with my cousins in tow. I live in the UK and rented a copy when it was first released. ![]() I have gone on and on about this for years and no-one but my family believe me. ![]()
